PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this standard will be working within a golf club environment, specialising in golf retailing, added services to golf clubs, golf coaching, sports science and golf event management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job. This standard will also add value to individuals who are seeking to develop a career pathway towards an accomplished sports management and sports administration specialist.

The qualifying learner is capable of:

  • Analysing and interpreting the concepts of a balanced diet and essential nutrients.
  • Analysing the energy needs of the golfer and determining dietary solutions accordingly.
  • Identifying and applying an appropriate diet for golfing performance.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Health in relation to the professional, physical and mental needs of an individual are outlined with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The key factors of health are explained and discussed with examples. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Key health factors include, but are not limited to, substance intake, exercise, rest, liquid intake, lifestyle and environment, inherited factors.

    The six essential nutrients and their forms, functions and purpose in health are identified and described with examples of which foods contain them. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A balanced diet for golfers is analysed and motivated in terms of its benefits for the golfer in terms of improved performance and increased enjoyment of the game.

    Analyse the energy needs of the golfer and determine dietary solutions accordingly.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The performance energy needs of a golfer are examined in the context of training and competition. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Glycaemic indices in relation to energy foods are explained and applied to a golfing context. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The energy value of different foods is calculated in kilocalories or kilojoules and are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The consequences of nutritional deficiencies pertaining to golf performance are identified and possible solutions proposed.

    Describe and explain an appropriate diet for golfing performance.

    Various beverages are evaluated for adequate hydration in the context of golfing performance.

    The dietary requirements of energy reserves and muscle oxygenation are analysed in a golfing context.
