PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Clothing Technology. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to implement specific customer requirements relating to the finishing process and processing of special finishes in clothing. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Clothing processes. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Finishing processes include industrial washing machines, drying / spinning machines, ovens and cleaning machines.
Tools include clippers and tweezers.
This standard will include special finishing processes for garments for use in the following:
  • Formal outerwear.
  • Casual outerwear.
  • Leisurewear.
  • Intimate / sleepwear.
  • Swimwear / actionwear.
  • Knitwear.
  • Hosiery.
  • Workwear.
  • Linen.
    Fabric types will include:
  • Wovens.
  • Non-wovens.
  • Warp knits.
  • Weft knits.
  • Knitwear.
  • Lace.
  • Elastics.
    Fabrics include filament or spun yarns at a variety of weights, finishes and structures.

    3. Demonstrate the ability to use completed garments and apply three special finishes.

    Processing special finishing techniques including Scotch Guarding, wrinkle resistance, stone washing
