PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for people who need to maintain and repair facsimiles:
  • As fundamental knowledge of the areas covered,
  • For those working in, or entering the workplace in Hardware and Infrastructure Maintenance and Support,
  • As additional knowledge for those wanting to understand the areas covered.

    People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Maintain facsimiles;
  • Identify problems with facsimiles; and
  • Resolve problems with facsimiles.
    The performance of all outcomes is to a level that allows for further learning in this area. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The credit value of this unit standard is calculated assuming a person has the prior knowledge and skills to:
  • Carry out soldering and de-soldering procedures in the electronics service industry,
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic electronic systems,
  • Apply systematic fault finding methodology in servicing electronic products,
  • Describe and apply telecommunications technology, and
  • Describe and install facsimiles

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Maintain facsimiles. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. A maintenance plan is agreed with the customer that meets manufacturer`s and organisation`s specifications. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Frequency, log book maintenance, cost, etc.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Maintenance procedures are carried out in accordance with manufacturer`s and organisation`s specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The maintenance includes an analysis of the customer logbook to identify incidents that have affected the performance of the facsimile. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The maintenance includes the inspection and replacement of high frequency service items according to manufacturer`s specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. The maintenance includes a review of the condition and performance of the facsimile in accordance with manufacturers specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    6. The maintenance details are recorded according to manufacturer`s, customer`s and organisation`s policies and procedures.

    Identify problems with facsimiles.

    2. The identification ensures that the cause(s) of the problem(s) are established without trial and error process.

    3. Problems are logged/recorded according to organisational requirements.

    Resolve problems with facsimiles.

    1. The resolution ensures that the problem is diagnosed using an industry recommended procedure. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The resolution may require a diagnostic tool to be used to diagnose the problems. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The resolution includes descriptions of the solutions to the problems that are justified by diagnostic evidence. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The problem causes and resolution are documented according to industry recommended practice and organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    5. The facsimiles are returned to service free of problem symptoms. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • The relevant Education and Training Quality Authority (ETQA) must accredit providers before they can offer programmes of education and training assessed against unit standards.
  • An assessor, accredited by the relevant ETQA, will assess the learner`s competency.
  • Assessment procedures will be supplied by the ETQA in alignment with NSB requirements.
  • All assessment activities must be fair, so that all candidates have equal opportunities. Activities must be free of gender, ethnic or other bias.
  • Assessment procedures, activities and tools must be transparent, affordable and support development within the field, sub-field and NQF.
  • Questions and answers to determine theoretical knowledge are expected.
  • Examination of an assessment portfolio.
  • Reporting skills are demonstrated by effective communication, using verbal (language) and/or writing skills.
  • Direct observation in simulated or actual work conditions.

  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
  • Moderation procedures, activities and tools must be transparent, affordable and support development within the field, sub-field and NQF.
