PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People credited with this nit standard are able to: describe how hair setting techniques and physical factors influence finished styles and how to assist the client in choosing the correct style for them. The learners will also be able to prepare to set hair for elementary styles; set and dress hair for elementary styles and complete all necessary follow up actions.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the factors that influence cutting and styling.
  • Preparing to cut and style hair for elementary styles.
  • Dressing hair for elementary styles.
  • Completing dressing techniques.

    Learners assessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical, computer, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

    The work station is prepared for the cutting and styling service according to organizational requirements.

    The client is consulted with in order to identify and confirm the work needed and an analysis is conducted of the hair and scalp.

    A style is selected in accordance with confirmed outcomes and factors and is compatible with the hair and scalp analysis.
