PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to prepare their workstation for the application of make and prepare their client for the application. Learners are also able to perform a day make-up, evening make-up, bridal make-up and photographic make-up according to set organisational and hygienic requirements.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Preparing the workstation for make-up application.
  • Preparing the client for make-up application.
  • Performing day make-up according to organisational and hygienic requirements.
  • Performing evening make-up according to organisational and hygienic requirements.
  • Performing a bridal make-up according to organisational and hygienic requirements.
  • Performing a photographic make-up according to organisational and hygienic requirements. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical, computer, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Skin types and conditions will include dry, normal, oily, combination, sensitive, dehydrated, mature skins and light / dark.
  • Make-up outcomes include day, evening, bridal and photographic. Differences will be products, intensity of application and colour/ tone and definition of shading techniques.
  • Consultation includes determining event, hairstyle, clothing, colour, and accessories.

    The client is received and consulted in accordance with organisational requirements and client information is recorded accurately on the client record card.

    Skin is assessed according to skin type for make-up service and any contra indications which preclude treatment are noted and referred in a professional manner.

    The client's face shape, areas for highlighting, shading or correction are identified and noted.

    A make-up design to achieve the desired effect is agreed upon with the client.
