PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to identify and explain different colour schemes of make up and explain the origins of make up. The learner is also able to apply make up for different periods of history and apply make up of the twentieth century

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and explaining the different colour schemes.
  • Describing and discussing the origins and development of make-up.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of make-up periods in history.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of make-up of the twentieth century.

    LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence against unit standards in mathematical, computer, numerical and communication studies at NQF Level 2 or equivalent.

  • Skin colour includes hemoglobin, melanin, keratin and albinism.
  • Colour schemes include monochromatic, analogous, triadic, complementary, hue, value, intensity and tint.
  • Ancient cosmetics could include Egyptian, Hebrew, Greek, Romans, Orientals South Americans and Africans.
  • Periods in history include middle ages, Renaissance, Elizabethan, age of extravagance and Victorian.

  • A basic understanding of the different colour schemes and the basic principles of the use of colour.
  • A basic understanding of colour science, colour wheel, skin undertones and colour blending is explained and demonstrated.
