PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard is intended for individuals who need to create, test and gain user approval for object scripts for multimedia/web-based applications from an outlined brief of the application.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Plan the creation of object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.
  • Define the logic flow of object scripts.
  • Write, test, and document object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.
The performance of all elements is to a standard that is expected in a professional environment.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
The credit value of this unit standard is calculated assuming a person has the prior knowledge and skills to:
  • Understand multimedia technology.
  • Understand the environment of the web.
  • Operate a computer.
  • Understand graphic design principles.
  • Understand project planning principles.

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE
Object refers to any item in the multimedia/web-based application which has a process associated with it, e.g. a user control.
Multimedia/web-based computer application refers to an interactive end-user computer application that includes digitised sound, graphics, photographs, animation, text, and video.

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria:

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
Plan the creation of object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The plan identifies the purpose, the outcome and the style of the multimedia/web-based computer application.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
The plan identifies and explains the feasibility of the requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
The plan identifies user objectives and critical performance factors.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
The plan estimates the development effort required so that the cost may be estimated.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
The plan includes a review procedure that ensures the outcomes meet user requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6
The plan for the creation of object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application is outlined and monitored according to project planning principles and financial requirements.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Define logic flow of object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
A logic diagram of the scripts demonstrates the specified outcome.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
The logic flow is sufficiently detailed to show decision points and results of decisions.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Write object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The object scripts fulfil the specified requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
The object scripts make efficient use of computer resources.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
The object scripts make use of language instructions that facilitate the understanding of the code.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
The object scripts make use of language constructs that facilitate the understanding of the code.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
The object script source is stored in an accessible and secure manner.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
Test object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
Testing checks all object script logic paths.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
The object script is corrected to eliminate errors identified through testing.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
Testing verifies that the object script functions in the required environment.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
Testing verifies that the object script requirements have been fulfilled.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5
Document object scripts for a multimedia/web-based computer application.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
The documentation enhances the understanding of the object script.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
The documentation complements the self-documenting attributes of the object script.
