PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this Unit Standard will be able to observe the process of gathering business requirements from the client and correctly record the findings of the session.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Understanding and participating in the process of defining and documenting the project scope.
  • Understanding and participating in the process of gathering client business requirements.
  • Assisting to document the findings of the business requirements gathering sessions for the generation of a project deliverables.

    It is assumed that the learner is competent in:

    Understand and participate in the process of defining and documenting the project scope. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The theory of and methodologies used in project scope definition are understood and can be clearly communicated to others orally. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The processes involved in the definition of a project scope are outlined orally using examples from practice. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The documentation needed for a meaningful aspect of the project scope definition is produced containing all the required information in the correct format using the appropriate language and terminology. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Understand and participate in the process of determining client business requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The theory of business requirements gathering/determination is fully explained in an oral presentation relating theories to methods of information gathering using practical examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Two different methods of gathering/determining business requirements are identified and explained in a presentation, which highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each method. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Methods used to gather related information about and for a business are explained in writing with examples of what type of information each method is best suited to. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A report of the information gathering sessions conducted with a client is written giving a summary of the information obtained highlighting the client's business needs and containing any other data collected for the purpose. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Information gathering session includes but is not limited to interviews, meetings, and workshops.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The business requirements of the client are outlined in a document that conforms with organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The process used to generate project deliverables is understood and explained in writing with examples illustrating the various steps in the process. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Assistance is given with the process of generating project deliverables for a client form the data obtained during the information gathering process. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
