PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to safely move, sort and store stock in required location, ensure stock in holding is correct and undamaged and available for booking. Learners are also able to receive and despatch stock in a safe manner and are able to locate stock that should be in stock holding from suppliers or customers.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Moving, sorting and storing stock.
  • Controlling stock while in holding.
  • Receiving and despatching stock.
  • Locating stock. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy on NQF level 2 or equivalent. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Sorting categories could include but are not limited to: size, colour, purpose, title, manufacturer, category, etc.
  • Product preparation could include but is not limited to: labels, wrapping, tagging, cling wrapping, bagging, boxing, etc.
  • Storage procedures could include but are not limited to: boxing, crating, covering, wrapping, bagging, cartooning, caging, shelving, etc.
  • Moving stock items by means of: trolley jack, lifting tackle, carrying, buddy carrying system, pulling, pushing, lifting, etc.
  • Corrective action taken could include but is not limited to: short deliveries, damaged goods delivered, incorrect address, re-scheduling of delivery, etc.
  • Corrective action on missing or incomplete stock, could include but is not limited to: credit refunds, fines, penalties, replacements, etc.

    Stock items are sorted according to specifications based on company categories.

    Sorted items are prepared for packaging as per product requirements and company standards.

    The prepared items are stored in correct location based on company warehouse layout and stock holding policies and procedures.

    Stock items are moved in safe and secure fashion in line with company procedures and equipment guidelines and safety standards.

    Stock items are checked for damages while in holding and corrective action implemented according to company standards.

    Stock items are counted and checked against documentation for holding levels and corrective action implemented should numbers not balance according to company standards.

    Stock holding items are checked to be secure and in correct location as per storage standards and procedures.

    Safety and security standards are applied for stock in holding as per company safety and security standards and procedures.

    Stock holding documentation is completed in required format and in required timeframe.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Delivery of stock items schedule is developed to determine receiving and delivery requirements from order book. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Tools and equipment is prepared for the receiving and despatching of goods and made ready to receive and despatch the goods in a time effective manner and according to company standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Received goods are checked before documentation is signed and goods accepted as per company standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Despatched goods are checked before loading to ensure correct amount, product and that items are in a good order and per company standards and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Receiving documentation is completed in required format and in required time frame. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Despatching documentation is completed in required format and processed in required time frame.

    Proof of delivery documentation is checked for signatures and notations and processed in required format and time frame.

    Corrective action is taken where necessary and correct documentation completed regarding corrective action taken.

    Missing or incomplete stock is identified against stock holding requirements and listed in required format.

    Missing or incomplete stock is located either physically or telephonically at supplier or customers in required time frame. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Corrective action is implemented for missing or incomplete stock according to company standards and procedures and followed up until standards are met.
