PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 5 National Diploma in CTFL Mechanician Processes. Learners who are assessed competent with this unit standard are able to set and adjust parameters to a textile dry process in a textiles manufacturing plant. Learners will be able to make complex adjustments to these processes. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes at NQF Level 4 or equivalent qualification. The required qualification at NQF Level 4 in Machine Repair and Overhauls. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
This standard applies to manufacturing in a textile dry process.

Machines used will include but will not be limited to:
  • Weaving preparation.
  • Weaving.
  • Spinning preparation.
  • Spinning.
  • Knitting.

    Setting parameters on a range of equipment and machinery within the dry process.

    Parameters are identified, selected and listed using customer and end-use requirements, industry processing technology norms, machine and suppliers manuals and instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Parameters will relate directly to the product specifications, meeting all quality and quantity standards. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Identified parameters are accurately set according to the criteria in point 1. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Tools, gauges and instruments are correctly selected from a range appropriate to industry processing technology norms, machine and suppliers manuals and instructions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Measurements are accurately made and recorded against the criteria set out in point 1above to ensure the accuracy of the settings.

    Adjustments will result in the required product specifications.

    Adjustments and product specifications are accurately checked and recorded.
