PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the core category of the NQF Level 5 National Diploma in CTFL Mechanician Processes. Learners who are assessed competent with this unit standard are able to develop systems, policies and procedures for maintenance of plant and equipment and analyse and monitor repair and maintenance levels in respect of quality of output and quality of work. Learners will also be able to analyse, record and report on repair and maintenance policies, procedures and processes. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes at NQF Level 4 or equivalent qualification. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Guarantee continuous running of plant and machinery will involve exact maintenance procedures that are scheduled, programmed, implemented and recorded according to existing laws and legislation.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
Developing systems, policies and procedures for maintenance of plant and equipment in operational conditions to comply with OHS Act at a minimum standard.

Planned maintenance programmes put in place through technical specialists and regulations, ensures that all plant and equipment is maintained to operational and company requirements.

Provision for preventative maintenance and emergency back-up service minimises breakdowns or other down time, which disrupt production or delivery of service applicable to the company's production plans.
