PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this Unit Standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of organisational transformation and the role of change management in assisting with this, in order to support the bringing about of transformation in South Africa.

In particular, on completion of this Unit Standard, the learner is able to:
  • Demonstrate the business case for implementing change management.
  • Develop a change methodology for a particular organisation.
  • Complete and report on research in this knowledge area.
  • Identify forces promoting and opposing change.
  • Describe appropriate actions to minimise risks associated with change.
  • Discuss issues of responsibility, authority, power and influence in this context.
  • Provide and evaluate change management models.
  • Relate the learning gained in achieving this Unit Standard to Organisational Transformation and Change Management (OT&CM).

    Demonstrate the effectiveness of planned change and reactive change in achieving organizational transformation objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A survey regarding change is conducted within a particular organisation and the findings recorded in a written report. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The way in which planned change is introduced and managed in an organization is explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Reactive change is introduced and managed in an organization is explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A report is drafted giving clear identification of business indicators that have improved as a result of planned and/or reactive change. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The case for planned change in achieving transformation objectives in a chosen organisation, rather than reacting to changing circumstances, is presented to key stakeholders. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The way in which an organisation can effectively achieve sustainable positive results by implementing change management is presented to management.

    Carry out a risk/benefit analysis of instituting a change management programme in a selected organization.

    The risk/benefit analysis promoting a change management programme in an organization is presented to management. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The forces which are in favour of, and those opposed, to change in a selected organization are identified and explained in a written report.

    Describe appropriate actions which will minimize risks, relating to change management.

    The ways in which the risks associated with change in an organization can be minimized and explained with examples of successful practice.

    A process to obtain feedback is developed for the organization.

    A process is illustrated whereby feedback can be recorded, documented and circulated. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A plan is drawn up which includes actions to circumvent identified risks to organisational transformation and to turn these into opportunities.

    Provide and evaluate examples of successful implementation of an effective change management model in an organization.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The ways in which variations in responsibility, authority, power and/or influence have an impact on the planned outcomes of a change management project are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Change management models used by an organization are evaluated for effectiveness and recommendations are made on how the plan could be improved. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accreditation for this Unit Standard shall be obtained from the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance Body, through summative and formative assessment by a registered assessor.
  • Assessors must be registered as an Assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation should include both internal and external moderation where applicable.
