PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to select and implement craft product designs that are appropriate to the production line of the enterprise. The unit standard contributes to the competence of those who want to develop a career path in the Art, Craft and Design sector, and contributes to greater levels of production and quality in this industry. Learners are competent in this unit standard will improve and the sustainability of both the enterprise and the industry.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication, NQF Level 4.

    Specifications are prepared to assist the craft producer in translating the drawing, sample and/or design, in the appropriate format.

    Work is allocated and relevant members and/or component suppliers are briefed to ensure standards of work are achieved.

    All information relevant to the design realisation process is prepared and communicated to appropriate persons.

    Materials and components relevant for the development of specifications are identified accurately.

    Specifications are developed, in consultation with other relevant craft team members, in the appropriate format and include the allowable acceptance tolerances.

    Collate and submit preliminary cost estimates.

    All items required for the craft products and range are checked and confirmed to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

    Costs of items required for the range/product are compiled and compared, accurately.

    Cost estimates are compiled for consideration and confirmation, accurately. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Adjustments are made to cost estimates, where necessary, in accordance with workplace procedures.
