PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of ERP consulting, and its impact on the business environment.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Describe the effect of the introduction of an ERP system on the people in the organisation.
  • Describe the effect of the introduction of an ERP system on the processes in an organisation.
  • Analyse the effect of an ERP system on the information flow in an organisation.
  • Analyse the impact of the introduction of an ERP system on organisational silos (departments). 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • End-user Computing at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication skills at NQF level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • This unit standard is meant to give learners an understanding of the connection between business enabling systems and the processes they support.
  • Learners are expected to gain an awareness of the manner in which Business systems, and ERP systems in particular, can add value in a business environment.
  • This unit standard alone will not give learners comprehensive technical expertise in ERP or Business systems.
  • The unit standard relies on the learners awareness of some aspect of the business functionality, be it through direct experience or observation. 

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Describe the effect of the introduction of an ERP system on the people in the organisation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    At least 3 ways in which an ERP system impacts the people in the organisation are described in writing. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The impact of an ERP system on people within the organisation is described and presented from the perspective of the CEO, the immediate superior and the end-user. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Describe the effect of the introduction of an ERP system on the processes in an organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The impact of an ERP system on the processes in the organisation is explained with the aid of at least three (3) examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The impact of an ERP system on processes is described with reference to the specific end-user's role in the organisation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Analyse the effect of an ERP system on the information flow in an organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The information flow of an organisation is depicted graphically. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The positive impact of an ERP system on the information flow of an organisation is illustrated, by listing at least three (3) examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The impact of the ERP system on the value chain is illustrated with reference to specific examples. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Analyse the impact of the introduction of an ERP system on organisational silos (departments). 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A differentiation is made between vertical and horizontal processes by providing at least 2 examples of each. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A description is provided of the impact that an ERP system has on the organisational silos. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The changes imposed on the end-user's job description are itemised by reflecting on specific position. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A description is provided of the positive and negative effects of changes introduced to the end-user's job-description.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
