PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to analyse clients and their impact on the consulting business towards identifying critical factors that need to be addressed to build and ensure an effective working, long term relationship. Learners are also able to develop long-term solutions to client's problems to ensure a long relationship.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Obtaining information about the client's position, role and influence within the organisation to establish a long-term working relationships
  • Matching the client's needs and expectations for a consulting project with the consultant's attributes, skills and expertise
  • Relating the long-term ramifications of an implemented solution to the client's long-term goals
  • Applying the knowledge (concepts and principles) of consulting in maintaining an effective working relationship with the client

    The client's needs and expectations for a consulting project are clearly mapped in accordance with organisational standards and requirements in order to set objectives for a consulting engagement 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Questions as to the suitability of the consultant to deliver the required change are asked verbally and responses recorded in line with organisational procedures and practices 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The clients needs are compared to the capacity of the consultants attributes, skills and expertises 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The decision to proceed with a consulting engagement is made on the basis of a one-to-one correspondence between client expectations and the consultant's experience and skills 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Relate the long-term ramifications of an implemented solution to the client's long-term objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The long-term implications of a change intervention are developed in the required format and communicated to the client 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A record is made of the outcome of discussions held with the client for the purpose of revealing the client's objectives in the long term 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An analysis is provided in the required format, of the relation between the long-term implications of a change intervention to the client's long-term objectives 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Apply the knowledge (concepts and principles) of consulting in maintaining an effective working relationship with the client.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The salient issues at stake in a consulting engagement are clarified according to organisational requirements to produce a shared understanding of the requirements between client and consultant 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Sound ethical principles are adhered to according to organisational policies and procedures in order to cement a relationship of integrity, trust and collaboration between client and consultant 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A strong service ethic is adhered to in accordance with organisational standards and procedures in order to ensure the longevity of the client-consultant partnership 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
