    A steady arm and/or side strain insulator on OHTE safely and correctly under "live" and/or isolated and earthed conditions thus contributing to the safe running of electric trains, as well as ensuring the continuity of power supply in the Rail Sector.

    Prepare to inspect, fault find, remove install/replace and adjust a steady arm and/or side strain isolator under "live" and/or isolated and earthed conditions.

    Tools, equipment and material are obtained and verified for correctness. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Safe loading and off-loading of tools, material and equipment are ensured for correctness. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The necessary safety precautions at the worksite are taken to prevent injury to personnel. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Work permit is obtained correctly and timeously when work is performed under isolated and earthed conditions according to work-permit procedures.

    Protection is placed correctly according to TWR. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Transport is arranged for personnel. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Inspect, fault find, remove, install/replace and adjust steady arm and/or side strain insulator under "live" and/or isolated and earthed conditions according to company specific instructions and manufacturer's specifications.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Moderation options:
  • Anyone assessing or moderating a learner against this unit standard must be trained, qualified, certified and re-certified as an assessor/moderator in the OHTE/Substation division in accordance with the specific validation regulations relevant to the specific unit standard and registered with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this Qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or has a Memorandum of Understanding with a relevant ETQA.
  • The relevant ETQA body will oversee assessment and moderation of assessment or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA, according to the ETQA policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessment at exit points of the Qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual Unit Standards as well as the integrated competence described in the Qualification.
