PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for all people who work with perishable foods in a wholesale or retail outlet. The standard enables the maintaining of personal hygiene associated with the handling of perishable food.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to implement and maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene in the workplace in order to support the standard of hygiene required in the industry.

    Personal hygiene standards of the organisation are met prior to starting work and throughout the shift.

    The impact of personal health or injury on perishable foods is explained with reference to contamination of perishable foods.

    Protective clothing worn at the department is identified in terms of its use and organisational policy.

    Organisational policy and procedure for the replacement and cleaning of applicable protective clothing is explained with example. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Protective clothing worn meets the cleanliness and maintenance standards of the organisation. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • This Unit Standard will be assessed by an assessor and moderated by a moderator registered with the relevant accredited ETQA.
  • Assessors should be in possession of a relevant qualification that is at least one level higher than the level of this qualification.
  • Training providers must be accredited by a relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment should include both formative and summative assessment.
