PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners working towards this standard will be learning towards the full qualification, or will be working within a golf club environment, specialising in golf retailing, added services to golf clubs, golf coaching, sports science and golf event management, where the acquisition of competence against this standard will add value to one's job. This standard will also add value to individuals who are seeking to develop a career pathway towards an accomplished sports management and sports administration specialist.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Describing and defining key concepts used in 'skills acquisition' in a golfing environment.
  • Describing information processing and motor control in relation to skills acquisition in a golfing environment.

    Cognitive and ecological perspectives on learning motor skills are explained in relation to motor learning. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The information-processing model of motor learning is described with regard to its elements and components. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The components of the information-processing model include, but are not limited to, concentration and attention, information input and memory.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Concentration and attention are explained in regard to their influence on effective response to decision making in motor control.

    Human memory and perception is described in terms of the short term and long term retention of motor skills.

    The ecological or action systems approach to motor learning is described with regard to the factors responsible for performance.

    The process of teaching and developing skills typically includes, but is not limited to: Introduction, explanation, demonstration, application, observation and feedback.

    Presentation styles are applied in a golfing environment and demonstrated in a typical golfing work context. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Presentation styles include, but are not limited to the whole method, part-whole method, whole-part-whole method and backward chaining method.

    Forms of guidance are applied when teaching golf.

    Safety procedures apply to hitting golf balls, first aid, emergency services, group coaching organisations, medical condition of learners, coaching environment.
