PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for a learner within the fabrication and welding fields. Learners credited with this unit standard will be able to operate the petrol-air preheating machine safely and to a high degree of accuracy in accordance with required quality specifications and standards.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Planning and preparing for petrol air pre-heating machine.
  • Identifying and selecting the petrol air pre-heating equipment.
  • Identifying the different rail types.
  • Applying the correct start up procedures according to manufacturer's specifications and company instructions.
  • Applying the correct testing procedures according to manufacturer's specifications and company instructions.

    The correct petrol-air preheating machine is identified and obtained in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and company procedures.

    The relevant consumables, tools and protective equipment are identified, obtained and used in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The correct fire-fighting and first aid equipment is identified and obtained in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Work area is observed for fire and safety hazards in accordance with company's and legislative requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The petrol-air preheating machine is prepared for operation safely and correctly according to manufacturer's procedures and specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The prescribed start-up procedure is followed according to manufacturer's procedures and specifications.

    The safety of self, co-workers and other people are ensured and the necessary precautions taken to prevent injury to personnel and damage to petrol-air preheating machine equipment.
