PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this standard will be able to manage themselves and their own development in the workplace. They will be able to conduct themselves in such a way so as to enhance their abilities to perform on the job and to increase their growth opportunities.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Applying task management self-discipline at the workplace.
  • Demonstrating an ability to develop own short-term and long-term career goals.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of professional ethics and code of conduct in the workplace.
  • Operating as a member of a team.

    Relevant information is recorded in a dairy electronically or manually and updated for purposes of creating action plans.

    Tasks are identified and prioritised according to specified deadlines. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The importance of following a work schedule is explained and applied to own work context. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Demonstrate an ability to develop own short-term and long-term career plans.

    The importance of developing personal plans for developing required skills and knowledge to enhance career is explained with examples.

    The skills and knowledge required for the development of own career is identified and utilised in own career plan.

    Mentors/workplace coaches are identified for the purpose of gaining guidance on chosen career path.

    The channels for obtaining current levels of competence and personal growth are utilised in a proactive manner.

    These channels include but are not limited to performance evaluation, employer recommendations and rewards.

    Demonstrate an understanding of professional ethics and code of conduct in a municipal environment.

    The core ethical values and standards applicable to the specific workplace are explained according to the specific workplace requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Ethical values and standards include but are not limited to justice, fairness, integrity, responsibility, accountability, competence, Batho Pele.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The main principles in the Code of Conduct in use are explained in accordance with the specific workplace requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Codes of Conduct include but are not limited to public sector, government, industry, municipal, company, organizational, employee bodies, legislation.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Professional codes of conducts are identified and explained in the context of the relevant legislation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The areas of ethical conflict between personal and public interests are identified and explained with examples.

    Areas of ethical conflict include but are not limited to acceptance of gifts, moonlighting, political activities, disclosure of information.

  • Any individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
