PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The learner should be able to process in-depth, multi-sector bookings from making the reservation to issuing the documentation using a CRS (Central Reservation System)/GDS (Global Distribution System). An increased knowledge of the GDS allows for a better supply of services to the passenger, by speeding up confirmations and providing current, correct information.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1
1. Arrange or create an environment in which the learner can be fairly assessed against the outcomes.
ASSESSMENT CRITERION NOTES

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2
    2. Evaluate the learner's ability to meet the outcomes.
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION NOTES
This unit standard can be assessed by combining travel scenarios and current affairs issues with practical CRS/GDS evaluation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3
    3. Provide specific feedback to the learner on assessments and the learner's ability to meet the outcomes.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4
    4. Complete the declaration of competence and inform the appropriate ETQA once the learner has demonstrated the ability to meet all the outcomes.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5
    5. Counsel the learner on future assessments, necessary learning and further qualifications.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Demonstrated ability to make decisions about practice.
    OUTCOME NOTES
    2. Access advanced CRS/GDS commands using a quick method.

    3. Obtain credit card authorisations using the CRS/GDS.

    4. Given that the GDS or printers are unavailable, decide whether to wait until the system is on-line again, or whether to process the booking and issue documents manually.

    5. Given a situation, decide when it is more efficient to us the CRS/GDS or when to use another method for reservations.

    6. Access fare displays and fare rules using the CRS/GDS.

    7. Access ticketed Point Mileages (TPMs) and Maximum Permitted Mileage (MPMs) using the CRS/GDS. Explain the application of each.

    8. Access and interpret Travel Information Manual (TIM) information and tourist information using the CRS/GDS.

    9. Issue complex, multi-sector tickets, using the CRS/GDS and explain the processes.

    10. Re-issue multi-sectors tickets in exchange for partially and totally unused tickets (re-routings), using the CRS/GDS and explain the processes.

PROVIDERS CURRENTLY ACCREDITED TO OFFER THIS UNIT STANDARD:
This information shows the current accreditations (i.e. those not past their accreditation end dates), and is the most complete record available to SAQA as of today. Some Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionaries have a lag in their recording systems for provider accreditation, in turn leading to a lag in notifying SAQA of all the providers that they have accredited to offer qualifications and unit standards, as well as any extensions to accreditation end dates. The relevant Primary or Delegated Quality Assurance Functionary should be notified if a record appears to be missing from here.
