PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will be useful for persons who are required to demonstrate the knowledge and skill to reflect the instructions into graphic images using 3D modelling.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the CAD user interface features and the modelling environment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of commands in order to develop a basic graphic object.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of commands and procedures to develop basic 3D models.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of file formats, model analysis and rendering.

    The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and contribute to the upliftment and economic growth of the mining and minerals sector.

    This unit standard is intended to promote general skills, knowledge and understanding of using a 3D computer programme as a design- tool to produce drawings to specifications in the jewellery manufacture process in order to ensure knowledgeable and informed workers.

  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) package.

    The relevant user interface features and the modelling environment are identified, understood and described in terms of basic computer literacy.

    The relevant commands and functions are identified, described and demonstrated by developing basic graphic objects.

    The relevant commands and functions are applied to 3D modelling and editing according to brief requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    An understanding of the various file formats is demonstrated in terms of their application. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Hazards and risks pertaining to the drawing process are identified and explained with reference to team occupational health and safety and environmental impact. The appropriate preventive measures are described in accordance with specified requirements.

    The relevant procedures are applied to prepare a 3D model for dimensioning and printing in terms of job specifications.

    The relevant procedures are applied to prepare a 3D model for file formatting in terms of job requirements.
