PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to acquire and induct project team members and explain the project and the required procedures to them. Learners will also be able to source, acquire and allocate 'non-people' resources as well as be able to establish the physical and virtual workplace environment for a project. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Communication at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Unit Standard: Develop an integrated project management plan for a simple to moderately complex project at NQF Level 5. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    Simple to moderately complex project can be defined as projects that have:
  • A high degree of stability, few uncertainties or low rate of change with regard to expected deliverables, phase contents, organisational process and procedures, legislation and team members.
  • Limited range of different methods or approaches relating to; the design and creation of deliverables and end products.
  • Low to moderate impact on the environment and or socio economic elements; Moderate to low need to comply with legislation; Moderate number of stakeholders affected by or interested in the project.
  • Low strategic importance to the organisation or organisations involved; Not necessary identified in strategic plans.
  • Stakeholders, that are in agreement about the characteristics of the product of the project; Benefits of the project well defined and agreed.
  • Low number of different organisations participating in the project; A low number; and or wide variety of interfaces between the project and other organisational entities in order to produce the end deliverable.

    The purpose, approach, scope, deliverables and time frames of the project are explained in accordance with the approved project management plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Project management processes and phases are identified and explained in line with the project management plan and agreed timelines. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Project methodology to be used is explained in accordance with the approved project management plan and operating requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Project methodologies include but are not limited to control procedures, purchasing procedures, templates and standards.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Stakeholder relationship management plan and communication management plan and methods are explained in accordance with project management plan. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Acquire and induct project team members.

    Project team members are identified and acquired in line with defined project roles and responsibilities. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Team members may be permanent or contracted.

    Team members are briefed and orientated on the project and work environment within required time frame. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Team and or individual roles and responsibilities are delegated according to the project management plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Project work is allocated to individual project team members in accordance with the project management plan. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The needs of Individual team members are identified and addressed in accordance with legislative and/or organisational policy and/or project policy. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    Project team rules are discussed and agreed with team members and recorded in required format. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Acquire and allocate 'non-people' resources for the project. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Resources may include but is not limited to: equipment, tools, seating, furniture, communication tools such as web access, e-mail, cell phones, specialised equipment.

    Resources are acquired in accordance with the agreed project management plan and or internal or external acquisition procedures.

    Resources required by team members to conduct project work are made available as and when required.

    Project asset register is maintained in line with project and or organisational standards and procedures.

    Establish physical and virtual workplace environment.

    Virtual workplace may include but is not limited to: project activities are not always conducted in the same physical location.

    Available facilities are investigated and needs to accommodate project team members and other resources are identified in accordance with legislation, the project management plan and team member needs.

    Needs could include but are not limited to: seating, storage, communications, technology, access, equipment, special needs of team members e.g. wheelchair access.

    A safe working environment is established in accordance with relevant legislation.

    A secure working environment is established in line with integrated project plan.

    A team charter is compiled in the required format that describes the team expected behaviours.

    Control could include but are not limited to: safety requirements, reporting escalation, change control, purchasing, approvals, levels of authorities.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
