PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications. The learner is capable of assessing and repairing damage to non-ferrous metal body components using the necessary equipment. This will contribute to the exit level outcomes required for the National Certificate in automotive repair and maintenance at NQF Level 4 and related qualifications.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
This unit standard has been designed as part of a progression. It is one of a series of unit standards for maintaining vehicles in the field of manufacturing and engineering. It is assumed that the learner has already learned to repair ferrous metal panels, remove and replace safety restraint systems, align and repair chassis and body shell, and conduct non-ferrous welding.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE
The ranges as indicated under the specific outcomes determine the scope and level of this unit standard.

All work is performed with little or no supervision in accordance with operational, repair manual specifications and procedures and in compliance with occupational safety, health and environmental legislation.
