PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard provides a learner with an overview of the role played by a terminal operator in the transport chain. Port terminals operations include container, multi-purpose, bulk-loading, car and passenger. This underpinning knowledge will form the basis for receiving and dispatching of different types of cargo in a shipping environment.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:
  • Describing the layout and operations of ports and terminals.
  • Analysing the operations of container terminals.
  • Analysing the operations of car terminals.
  • Analysing the operation of multi-purpose terminals.
  • Analysing the operation of bulk terminals.

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
It is assumed that a learner will be competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
