PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is intended for learners working at a supervisory level within the surveillance arena of a casino. Its key areas are supervising staff duties, ensuring that operations are performed smoothly without disturbance to customers and that any malfunctions of equipment or irregularities are dealt with expeditiously. The sub-field will benefit by minimising losses within the casino due to irregular activities.

The learner will additionally develop essential skills for management at a higher level.

On achievement of this unit standard the learner will understand and be able to:
  • Demonstrate an in depth understanding of internal and external legislation pertaining to surveillance requirements.
  • Carry out shift supervisory duties within a surveillance room.
  • Investigate irregular activities.
  • Adhere to logistical requirements within the surveillance room.
  • Compile shift and daily reports.
  • Conduct quality control checks.

    On completion of this unit standard the learner should be ready to develop learning in further, more complex processes related to activities within surveillance room.

    Possible compliance issues are identified as these would occur in the daily running of the casino.

    The importance of compliance to internal and external legislation is stressed as it impacts on the smooth supervision of activities within a surveillance room.

    Staff is allocated to monitor various sections of the casino according to aptitude and other relevant criteria.

    Supervise/draw up staff schedules and manage accordingly.

    Numbered stationary requirements are met to ensure compliance.

    All gaming activities are monitored closely and accurately within the surveillance room to uncover any irregular activity.

    Irregular activities are investigated and reported according to company procedure.

    Correct procedures are adhered to pertaining to irregular activities in question.

    Logistical requirements are adhered to in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the surveillance room.

    Ensure functionality of surveillance equipment is ensured to contribute to the smooth functioning of the surveillance room and accurate recording of activities within the casino.

    Technical faults are referred to appropriate technicians for correction.

    CCTV malfunctions are reported to ensure compliance where necessary and appropriate.

    Quality control procedures are conducted on register entries made by surveillance operators to ensure accuracy.

    Daily report containing information from central monitoring system is compiled as is required by Gambling Board rules and regulations.

    A daily report is forwarded to management and gaming board to ensure compliance.
