PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals who will be working in a tightly controlled environment and running a devised Adventure Based Learning programme. The training of sufficient staff to facilitate participation in activities to meet aims and objectives implies the possibility of physical, social, emotional and mental development of individuals participating in Adventure based Learning Programmes.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Prepare participants for a specific Adventure Based Learning activity.
  • Facilitate participation in an Adventure Based Learning activity to meet specific aims and objectives.
  • Assist participants to work individually or in groups in order to reach aims and objectives.

    The activity and strategy for facilitation as it applies to the activity is adapted to meet identified aims and objectives.

    Legal compliance for activities is maintained as it applies to health and safety as well as the physical and emotional risk of the activity.

    Activities are carefully supervised, checking participants' responses and maintaining minimum impact on the environment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Facilitation is conducted to encourage lateral thinking, and alternative approaches, in reaction to the development of the activity in relation to the specific aims and objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Clear and supportive feedback is given to participants on strengths and weaknesses, and level of achievement relative to the specific aims and objectives.

    The activity is concluded according to aims and objectives through the incorporation of relevant feedback and analysis.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard or assessing this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
