PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals entering the pharmaceutical field. Individuals credited with this standard will have a basic understanding of pharmaceutical terms and concepts as well as an understanding of the importance of documentation and regulations within the pharmaceutical environment. The individual will, in addition, begin to develop an understanding of critical aspects within the pharmaceutical context. This unit standard will provide individuals with the basic knowledge needed when completing other unit standards in this field.

    Different product categories are defined and examples are given of each.

    Product categories include ethicals, biologicals, dressings, medical devices, complementary and traditional remedies.
