PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this unit standard is to develop competency in processing cheque, credit card, foreign currency and bank transactions. The individual should develop competent usage of relevant skills in this regard.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Process cheque transactions.
  • Process credit card transactions.
  • Process foreign currency transactions.
  • Understand the impact of crime/forgery.
  • Follow general procedures for processing payment.

    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • The processing of banking related activities.
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 3.

    The typical scope and context of this unit standard is the processing of cheque, credit card and bank transactions within the casino environment in South Africa.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Different types of cheques and the procedure for processing them are differentiated between. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Cheques includes but is not limited to facility/guaranteed cheques, ATM cheques, Rand traveller's cheques, foreign traveller's cheques, drafts.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Cheques are verified and processed according to specific company procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Cheques includes but is not limited to facility/guaranteed cheques, ATM cheques, Rand traveller's cheques, foreign traveller's cheques, drafts.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Expiry dates and the method of obtaining authorisation on local and foreign cheque floor limits are explained to process cheques accurately. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The impact of crime on the gaming industry is described in terms of profitability, employment and client satisfaction. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Range includes but is not limited to forgery of foreign and local cash, credit cards, cheques and traveller`s cheques.

    The importance of checking expiry dates on credit cards is explained in ensuring a smooth credit card transaction. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Authorisation on local and foreign credit cards is obtained to process transaction successfully. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Credit cards are verified and processed accurately according to company procedure.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The Reserve Bank rules on foreign currency are explained with reference to processing foreign currency. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Various ways are used to access current exchange rates before processing foreign currency. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Various ways are used to check authenticity of foreign currency before processing transaction. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Follow general procedures for processing payment.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Gaming Board requirements and company procedures are stated for cheques, credit cards, debit cards, smart cards, traveller's cheques, and foreign currency. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of the verification process is explained in correlation to the surveillance department. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An explanation is given of the impact non-compliance to the above procedures has on the company.

    Payments and processes adhere to all requirements set out by FICA and NCA.
