PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering; Generation; Distribution; Transmission, Construction, Mining, Chemical and Renewable Energy Sector.

A person accredited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Plan and prepare to install, maintain or replace Low Voltage distribution boards, protection devices and components.
  • Maintain Low Voltage distribution boards, protection devices and components.
  • Install, or replace Low Voltage distribution boards, protection devices and components.
  • Conclude the installation, maintenance and replacement of Low Voltage distribution boards, protection devices and components.

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment.

    Task instructions are obtained and understood (Interpreted).

    Job cards/works requests/maintenance schedules and work permits (where applicable).

    The relevant electrical distribution boards, protection devices and components to be installed or replaced are identified as per work place procedures and standards.

    The correct personal protective equipment is identified as per work place procedures.

    Overalls; Aprons; Safety Glasses; Face Shields; Masks.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The correct cleaning equipment, solvents and materials are identified as per work place procedures.

    The correct equipment to be worked on is identified and proper isolation and lock-out procedures is ensured for installation and maintenance.

    Distribution board and panel enclosures are visually inspected for defects. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Doors, hinges, locking devices, structure damage, weather seal, rust, faded paint, moisture, dust, burnt insulation, name plates and labels.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The correct cleaning equipment, solvents and materials are used as per work place procedures. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Blowers; Extension leads, Vacuum Cleaners, Waste/Rags; Chemical solvents; Brushes.

    Damaged distribution board and panel enclosure components are repaired or replaced where necessary.

    The supply cable is terminated and connected in accordance with specified requirements.

    The supply cable, distribution board, protective devices and components are labelled in accordance with specified requirements.

    Conclude the maintenance of Low Voltage distribution boards, protective devices and components.
