This unit standard will enable learners to assess Information Technology (IT) solutions to ensure that strategic business goals are met and agreed requirements are satisfied.

A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Determine conformance of solutions design options with requirements.
  • Allocate requirements to specific releases and/or solutions components.
  • Determine organisational readiness to effectively operate the new solution.
  • Validate that the deployed solution meets the business objectives.
  • Assess the value of the solution as deployed to the business.

    Determine conformance of solutions design options with requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Solution design options and requirements documentation are assessed to determine which design option will best meet the stated requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Various work products are used to assist with the solicitation and evaluation of different design options. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Work products include but are not limited to Request For Information (RFI), Request For Proposal (RFP), internal designs, manual procedures.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A solution design assessment is produced to demonstrate how well the possible design solutions meet the stated requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    The solution design assessment includes but is not limited to a recommendation of a particular solution, rejection of all solutions an assessment of possible trade-offs.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Allocate requirements to specific releases and/or solutions components.

    Various work products are analysed together with stakeholders in order to determine requirement priorities and allocate the requirements to a release schedule.

    Different release options are designed in a way that maximizes the possible business value given the options and alternatives.

    Different implementation approaches are planned and designed in a way that maximizes the possible business value given the options and alternatives.

    A recommended release/delivery strategy is produced to allocate requirements to a release schedule.

    Determine organisational readiness to effectively operate the new solution.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Various work products are analysed to determine the organisational readiness to implement the recommended solution. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Work products include but are not limited to business architecture, solution design document.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    An organizational readiness assessment is conducted to assess the organisation in terms of the recommended solution. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    An optimal deployment strategy is established to ensure effective implementation of the solution. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Work products are produced to document the organisational readiness and deployment strategy. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Work products include but are not limited to organizational readiness assessment, organizational change recommendations, and implementation plan.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Validate that the deployed solution meets the business objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The deployed solution is compared to the validated requirements document to validate whether the verified and deployed solution meets the agreed business objectives. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Acceptance criteria, including the level of conformance to requirements that is acceptable, are defined to determine how the deployed solution will be validated. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Acceptance criteria include but are not limited to test strategy, test plan, test cases, performance and quality metrics.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Defects and shortcomings in the deployed solution are determined to identify where the solution does not meet the business requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The impact of the defects and shortcomings are analysed to determine their effect on the business. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Corrective actions are defined and established to fix defects and shortcomings. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The implementation of corrective actions are validated to ensure that the defects have been fixed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Work products are produced to ensure that the solution has been validated.

    Work products includes but are not limited to validated solution, defect impact analysis, validated corrective actions.

    Assess the value of the solution as deployed to the business.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The deployed solution is measured against agreed metrics to assess whether business objectives have been met. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The actual project costs are compared to the originally estimated costs to highlight any additional costs that have been incurred. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The actual benefits of the deployed solution are compared to the originally estimated benefits to highlight whether the estimated benefits have indeed accrued. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A post-implementation review is conducted to assess the success of a project and provide benchmarks for continuous improvement. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Solution impacts are communicated to all stakeholders to facilitate organisational learning and continuous improvement. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
