PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard reflects the skills, values and knowledge required by people in the field of Occupational, Health and Safety who are responsible for determining the cooling power and low air velocities by means of a wet Kata thermometer and taking the appropriate action.

Qualifying learners can use a wet Kata thermometer to determine cooling power and low air velocity.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:

    The importance of providing and sustaining air with a cooling power is explained in terms of legal and site-specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The importance of measuring the cooling power of air is explained in terms of specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Alternative methods of determining the cooling power of air are explained in terms of site-specific requirements.

    The required personal protective equipment is used in accordance with its design and specified requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Conditions that may influence the accuracy of readings are dealt with in accordance with measurement requirements and worksite procedures.

    The cooling power and low air velocity is measured in accordance with the prescribed methods. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The results are recorded and sub standard conditions are dealt with in accordance with specified requirements.

    The surrounding area is continuously assessed and hazards and risks are dealt with in accordance with specified requirements.

    Perform post-measuring activities. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The wet Kata thermometer is cleaned and stored in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and site-specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A defective wet Kata thermometer is reported and dealt with in accordance with worksite specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Reports are completed and submitted in accordance with legal and site-specific requirements.
