PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner is capable of supporting and maintaining ground based Digital Airfield Information Display Systems data processing used for information in the aviation environment.

Qualifying learners will be capable of:

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Preventive maintenance requirements are conducted as per schedule and confirmed with customers in accordance with routine maintenance schedules. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Airfield Information Display Systems are maintained in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
  • Display systems include both software and hardware.
  • Hardware includes, but is not limited to:
    > Output interface, PSU and HDD's.
     

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Appropriate software and hardware tools are used to perform preventative maintenance as specified by the manufacturer.

    Airfield Information Display Systems functionality is restored and returned to the customer according to organisational procedures.

    The consequences of failing to carry out preventive maintenance are explained outlining the dangers thereof.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Equipment failure is verified through contacts with customers and/or through supervisory systems according to organisational procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Preliminary corrective fault diagnosis is conducted to identify the fault in accordance with manufacturer's maintenance procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Preliminary corrective action is conducted to restore the system through reset or re-configuration in accordance with the maintenance procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Corrective fault diagnosis is conducted using test equipment and software tools to identify faults in accordance with corrective maintenance procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Corrective action is performed using software configuration and where applicable the faulty modules/components are replaced according to manufacturer's procedures.

    Performance figures are evaluated and verified against manufacturers' specifications and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) recommendations.

    Engineering reports are compiled and the status and performance of the system are recorded according to organisational procedures.

    Airfield Information Display Systems performance verification and optimisation processes are performed in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and to ICAO recommendations.

    Identify and solve problems when carrying out fault diagnosis thereby ensuring that appropriate remedial actions are initiated for the effective restoration of failed or defective Airfield Information Display Systems equipment.

    International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) recommendations publish recommendations and standards for all communications, navigational and surveillance systems used in aviation.

    Corrective maintenance procedures include procedures contained in equipment manufacturer manuals, ICAO recommendations and site specific maintenance procedures.
