This unit standard will be useful to people who are required to manufacture soldered chains.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Manufacture soldered chains.
  • Finish and clean up the chains.

    It is assumed that learners are already competent in:

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Tools, material and equipment are selected and prepared for the specified job in accordance with organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The metal is prepared in accordance with jewellery manufacturing requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The chain is manufactured to design specifications and within an agreed timeframe. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE

  • ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Occupational hazards and risks are identified and dealt with in accordance with workplace procedures.

    Housekeeping and safe working practices are adhered to and demonstrated in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The consequences of not adhering to correct preparation, housekeeping and safe working practices are described in terms of the potential impact on occupational health and safety, productivity and quality.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Jewellery manufacturing tools, material and equipment are selected and prepared for use in accordance with manufacturer specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The chains are given the desired finish in accordance with the specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The desired fastening mechanisms are selected and attached to the chain in accordance with given requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The consequences of not applying the desired finish, and thus deviating from the design specifications, is described in terms of the potential impact on occupational health and safety, productivity and quality.
