    Origins of community development are discussed from historical perspectives in relation to the community development process. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The role of the community development process is explained in relation to nation building. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Building blocks of community development are identified and explained in relation to specific contexts. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Specific contexts include but are not limited to historical, socio-cultural, economic and political.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The principles and ethics relevant to the community development process are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Community development approaches are explained in relation to national, regional and/or international developments.

    Community dynamics are critically assessed in the context of networks, power relationships and structures within communities.

    A framework is developed to conduct community profiling using different approaches.

    Stakeholders and role players are explained in terms of their significance, roles and responsibilities in community development. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The significance of acknowledging diversity is explained in terms of the need to promote interdependent relationships. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Diversity includes but is not limited to gender, race, age, religion, sexual orientation, education, skills, language and culture. Interdependent relationships include but are not limited to social cohesion, unity in diversity and solidarity.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The need for applying ethical principles to ensure community well-being is explained. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Ethical principles include but are not limited to human orientation, honesty, integrity, pursuit of excellence, fidelity, loyalty, caring, respect, transparency, accountability, responsible citizenship trustworthiness, participation, empowerment, ownership and release).

    The need for applying practical principles to ensure community well-being is explained.

    Factors contributing to the community development process are assessed and applied in drawing up a community development process plan.

    Resources needed for a sustainable and integrative community process plan are identified.

    Resources include but are not limited to natural, financial, human, and infrastructure.

    Roles and responsibilities of stakeholders and role players are reviewed when tracking development progress.

    A community development process plan is assessed to determined limitations and shortcomings so that the plan can be amended to meet set outcomes.

    Leadership skills are applied to build effective relationships with communities.

    Opportunities for collective learning are planned for and created through shared reflection on action to be taken.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standard as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.
