PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for persons who are entrusted with the responsibility to determine damages and defects in a product for corrective action.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Conduct inspection of a product.
  • Test electronic equipment.
  • Install electronic equipment.
  • Disassemble and/or assemble electronic components and systems. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematics at NQF Level 4.
  • Physical Science at NQF Level 4.

    Equipment includes but is not limited to:
  • Multi-meters.
  • Circuit testers.
  • Oscilloscopes.

    Different forms of inspection are identified and discussed in terms of their advantages and disadvantages.

    Different forms include but are not limited to visual, smell, auditory, kinetic and checklist.

    Potential causes of damages on the product are identified in terms of the operational condition of the product.

    Potential causes include but are not limited to transportation, packaging, assembling and disassembling and manufacturing instructions.

    Defects are identified and recorded in order to take necessary action.
