PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for all persons working in Administration in commercial and non-commercial organisations. It is also intended for other people who have the task of managing service providers to an organisation.

Persons credited with this unit standard can:
  • Describe the elements of service provider management
  • Develop contracts for service providers
  • Evaluate the deliverables of service providers
  • Manage service providers who do not deliver on contracts.

    Learners should be competent in Communication at NQF Level 3. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Elements of a contract include, parties involved, dates, objectives, expiry dates, responsibilities of parties, outputs of parties.
  • Service providers provide services including market research and marketing companies, infrastructure, policy, training and technical assistance and technology and product development.

    1. The importance of developing and signing contracts with providers is described in terms of delivery of the final product. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Different elements of contracts are described in terms of organisational requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The impact of service providers' delivery is described in terms of resource requirements, financial impact and time. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The deliverables of at least three providers to a selected organisation are formulated from real examples. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Develop contracts for service providers.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Categories of service providers are identified who service a selected organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Outputs for four categories of service providers are listed in terms of the types of service provider and the requirements of the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Project plans for four service providers for the delivery of products or services are constructed in terms of the requirements of the organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Contracts are drawn up for four service providers based on the project plans drawn up and legal requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Evaluate the deliverables of service providers.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. On-going monitoring of service provision is conducted in terms of the contract signed. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Final outputs of service providers are checked in terms of quality and date of delivery against signed contract. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Payments for services are made based on signed contracts and satisfactory delivery of products. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Manage service providers who do not deliver on contracts.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. The cost of lack of delivery is calculated based on impact on the business. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. An investigation is conducted into the reasons for the lack of delivery. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. Different courses of action are identified based on contractual agreements, legal options, cost implications and impact on business to include cancellation of contract and legal action. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. An identified course of action is implemented based on legal obligations and organisational requirements. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Assessors must be registered as assessors with the Services SETA ETQA or an ETQA that represents the sectors in which the learner is employed.
  • Moderators must be registered as assessors with the Services SETA ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a > morandum of Understanding with the Services SETA ETQ
  • The mechanisms and requirements for moderation should be applied in accordance with the requirements of the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment should include both formative and summative assessment.
  • Training providers must be accredited by the Services SETA ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Services SETA ETQA.

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COLLECTING 
    Collect, organise and critically evaluate information by collecting information regarding the impact on a micro-finance institution of lack of delivery by a service provider. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO COMMUNICATING 
    Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and / or language skills in the modes of oral and / or written persuasion. Verbal communication is required during the process of negotiating ad agreeing a contract with a service provider. 

    UNIT STANDARD CCFO DEMONSTRATING 
    Be culturally and aesthetically sensitive across a range of social contexts when managing contract and when managing service providers who do not deliver on contracts.
