PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is for learners in the field of investigation who conduct an investigative interview

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Plan and prepare comprehensively to conduct an interview with a suspect/witness utilizing the P.E.A.C.E. Model .
  • Conduct an effective interview utilizing proper questioning techniques and the P.E.A.C.E. Model .
  • Conclude the investigative interview

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the safety in society environment and more especially within the investigation environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the safety in society environment.

    The file and relevant information is obtained and studied according to organizational policies and procedures.

    A written plan is drawn up which includes a time schedule, agenda and questions for specific topics according to organizational policies and procedures 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A document is prepared in which the interviewer indicates how he/she will engage in a conversation with and what will be explained to the interviewee according to organizational policies and procedures 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Opening questions to the interviewee are prepared according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Conduct an effective interview utilizing proper questioning techniques and the P.E.A.C.E. Model.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The opening question is delivered in the correct fashion according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Annotations of the interviewee's agenda are made according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Relevant topics in the interviewee's agenda are identified and these topics are developed by using the correct questioning techniques according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Each topic is summarised immediately after completion thereof by the interviewer according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The complete agenda of the interviewee is summarised by the interviewer before commencing with his/her previously compiled agenda according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The agenda of the interviewer is introduced by asking relevant questions under each topic according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    Each topic is summarised by the interviewer after completion thereof according to organizational policies and procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8 
    The complete agenda of the interviewer is summarised according to organizational policies and procedures.

    Areas / points are explored further where applicable according to organizational policies and procedures.

    Discrepancies that require explanations / gaps in the evidence are addressed by the interviewer according to organizational policies and procedures.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
    2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
    3. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures

    The standard describes competent performance in doing physical techniques that will enhance their job performance, and lay down the criteria by which competence should be judged, as well as the range of circumstances in which competence should be demonstrated.

    Integrated assessment methods and tools will allow the candidate to demonstrate that she/ he has acquired knowledge of and can safely and effectively apply competence identified in this unit standard.
