PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
People in the field of manufacturing and engineering require the skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard. The learning outcomes in this unit standard also contribute to the exit level outcomes required for various manufacturing and engineering qualifications. The learner is capable of identifying the various types of differentials, to assess the condition of the parts and to repair and assemble the differential and to record and submit a report. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
It is assumed that learners are already competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Prepare and inspect the vehicle. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
  • Prepare includes parking the vehicle on a level surface, obtain test equipment and clean test equipment connecting areas and connect test equipment.
  • Inspection includes visual and performance checks under load and no-load conditions.
  • Visual inspection includes damaged or bent pipes, fluid levels, leaks and loose connections.
